Amsterdamse Bob Billy maakt muziek voor genegeerde film

Op 14 oktober verscheen de film Schemer, een snoeihard sociodrama over een clubje tieners dat een bij de groep behorend meisje vermoordt. Regisseur Hanro Smitsman liet zich voor het scenario inspireren door de moord op Maja Bradaric in 2003. De jury van het Nederlands Film Festival liet de film links liggen en Pathé programmeert hem niet. Opmerkelijk, aangezien de jongerenjury op het Nederlandse Film Festival Schemer tot beste film uitriep. Weet de industrie het beter dan de doelgroep?

Evenzo vergaat het de Amsterdamse band Bob Billy, die muziek leverde voor Schemer. De band won de Parool Popprijs, De Rob Acda award en de publieksprijs van de Amsterdamse Popprijs.
De band speelde op podia en festivals door heel Nederland, waaronder Paradiso, Melkweg, Vera, de Boerderij, Ruigoord en Dijkpop. Hun albums werden goed ontvangen, maar erkenning door de muziekindustrie blijft uit.

De Nederlandse filmmakers blijken wel oren te hebben naar Bob Billy. Eerder dit jaar gebruikte Marc de Cloe in zijn speelfilm Shocking Blue muziek van de band. Speciaal voor Schemer schreef Bob Billy het nummer Dead Wrong, dat deze maand als single verschijnt. De clip werd in samenwerking met de productiemaatschappij voor Schemer gemaakt. Het is afwachten of de muziekindustrie Bob Billy nu wel zal oppikken.
In ieder geval heeft collega underdog Hanro Smitsman al zin in meer Bob Billy: “Voor mijn volgende film wil ik dat ze de hele soundtrack maken.”

Bob Billy een muziek rol in 2 Nederlandse speelfilms.

Nadat er muziek van Bob Billy in de film Shocking Blue (www.imdb.com/title/tt1307010/) zat, zijn er in de film Schemer (www.imdb.com/title/tt1467061/), die op zaterdagavond 25 september in première gaat op het Nederlands Film Festival in Utrecht, maar liefst 4 tracks te horen van Bob Billy. De song 'Love you so much' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT2h2D0Mzfw) spant de kroon en is ruim aanwezig tijdens een heftige scene in de film.

“..Eerder dit jaar was het al super om een première te ervaren waarbij eigen muziek te horen was over beeld, maar dat er nu weer een speelfilm in de Nederlandse bioscopen gaat draaien met maar liefst 4 songs van de band Bob Billy is helemaal te gek..” (bassist Hayo)

De namen van de songs uit beide speelfims zijn; Coffee & Eternity, Big Bottle of attention, David, Love you so much, Maximum ugly en Stagger along. De meeste tracks zijn van het album dat in eigenbeheer in 2007 gereleased is, The horse is the cowboy

In Nederland gaat Schemer op zaterdagavond 25 september 2010 in première op het Nederlands Film Festival. De film beleeft zijn wereldpremière op het Internationaal filmfestival van San Sebastian.

Unexpected sounds from the lab of vintage recordings (see phatproductions)! With Bob Billy's recent recordings, the drummer did some yelling through his call back mic. It was nicely routed through the vintage mix console and the control room engineer fortunately captured it and it sounded like this!

Our music was most of the soundtrack of "Baby,baby, baby" an English theatre-film comedy that was totally sold out.

Most of the numbers of the soundtrack were Bob songs. It was a great succes and Bob is proud of have been in it. Who knows? Maybe the next time we'll play a gig after the play. Just for fun, why not?

Bob Billy has been hard at work composing 4 new songs, and last weekend we took it to the next level.

In the studio with phatproductions.nl

Theo Langejans and Foppe Talman have joined this co-production bringing along with them their expertise and collection of vintage and modern recording equipment.

The first step is complete and what an experience it was!

2 days, 4 songs, 6 guys, a load of equipment and 1 unique mixing board!

Literally unique! This the only one of it's kind!

Before Theo and Foppe had their hands on it, this beauty was used to record classical orchestras for it's pristine sound full of analogue warmth and amazing clarity and Bob Billy have the honor to be the first rock band ever to record with it!
